Since I’m now working for a new company, I have a new cell phone – a Nokia E66
Due to setting up D’s E71 I had a deep knowledge how to use and customize an S60 phone (like E71 and E66) and up until today there was constantly one thing bugging me: the phone started blinking when the display went into standby – why??? Not only does that waste power but it is also hard to identify if I have missed calls or text messages…
So I googled a solution for that:
- @ Menu > Tools > Profiles select a profile and select “personalize”
- Go to “Breathing light” and set it to off
- press the navigation key to the right to set it off for all other profiles
After that your phone only blinks if you have a missed call or a text message.
But what is this feature made for? I assume that if you want to distinguish between two profiles (like default and silent) you can activate this feature in the silence profile, so that you can easily see that your phone is set to be silent…?

It sounds similar to an idea of the T-Labs called ambient life or so. Your mobile has a pulse like a living whatever and gets a higher pulse when something happens (SMS, email, etc). The only thing is it vibrates and does not blink…
Extraordinary advice! You that posted the solution have done a marvelous job sharing this with us. This blinking really annoyed me cause I didn’t know if I missed a call or it’s just… “breathing”. You wouldn’t believe for how many days I’ve been reading all sorts of forums. I’ve tried deleting SIM messages, resetting all lights options and so forth. And when I think of this…. IT WAS SO EASY!
Keep up the good job!
Thanks ever so much for coming up with the solution. I couldn’t sleep many nights just thinking how to turn this shit off. With this light on my mobile could never actually rest. But now, when I hit the bed even my mobile sleeps in the glory without heating up
Night Night!!!!
Blinking doesn’t stops in my e66 while doin this profile things.what should i do now?
